The following Western Canada Baseball Association Championships start today and run through Sunday…

14-and-under Girls, with four provincial teams – including Saskatchewan – taking part, at the Ed Bryant and Joe Zeman Fields at Geoff Hughes Park in Saskatoon. Games go today at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. at both fields.

Art Berard 15-and-under Boys, with five teams taking part – including the Sask-Five Giants and Saskatoon Brewers – at Nutana Kiwanis Park in Saskatoon. Games go today at 10 a.m., 1, 5 and 8 p.m.

13-and-under Triple-A Boys, with eight teams taking part – including the Moose Jaw Canucks and Yorkton Cardinals – in Chilliwack, B-C.

13-and-under Double-A Boys, with five teams taking part – including the Assiniboia Southern Aces – in St. Albert, Alberta.

The Under-15 Girls’ nationals at Winkler and Morden in Manitoba, with 21 teams taking part, split into three pools of seven teams each for preliminary round-robin play and followed by playoffs. There is a Saskatchewan team in each of the pools – the Regina Saints, the Prince Albert Aces and the White Butte Storm. Regina has 1 win, 3 losses…tied for 5th place in the Black Pool. Prince Albert has 2 wins, 2 losses…good for 4th place in the Red Pool. White Butte has 2 wins, 2 losses…tied for 2nd place in the White Pool. On their schedules today…

In addition, the 2025 Women’s and Men’s Slo-pitch Canadian Championships continue today and run through tomorrow in Surrey, B-C. The 16 women’s teams have been reduced to eight for playoffs, which start tomorrow. Among the teams is the Saskatchewan Raiders, who finished round-robin play with 3 wins, 7 losses…tied for 12th place. Playoffs start tomorrow.

On the men’s side, the 19 teams, who were split into 10-team and nine-team pools for preliminary round-robin play, have been reduced to eight total – four from each pool – for playoffs, which start tomorrow. Among the teams is the S-I-S Dodgers from Saskatchewan, who finished with 5 wins, 4 losses…tied for 4th place in the Black Pool. Playoffs start tomorrow.

The 2025 Canada Summer Games continue today and run through Sunday, August 24th in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Saskatchewan has a full contingent of 377 athletes and 85 coaches taking part in the 19 sports contested in the multi-sport event, representing 92 different communities from across the province. There is action today in men’s baseball, women’s basketball, men’s basketball, women’s box lacrosse, canoe/kayak, cycling, women’s rugby sevens, men’s rugby sevens, sailing, men’s soccer, women’s fastpitch-softball, swimming, tennis, women’s beach volleyball and men’s beach volleyball. Saskatchewan has 2 medals – 1 gold, 0 silver and 1 bronze – tied for 8th place in the provincial standings.

On the golf course…

The Canadian Junior Men’s Amateur Golf Championship continues and winds up today in Bathurst, New Brunswick. Today is the fourth of four rounds in the 72-hole event for individuals. The field of 156 competitors has been reduced to the low 76 and includes Ethan Hunter and Ryan Mosher – both of Saskatoon.

The Canadian Junior Women’s Amateur Golf Championship continues and wraps up today in Courtenay, B-C. Today is the third of three rounds in the 54-hole event for individuals. The field of 134 competitors has been reduced to the low 71 with no Saskatchewan golfers making the cut.

The I-T-F World Tennis Tour’s Saskatoon Challenger women’s professional W-50 tournament continues today and runs through Sunday at the Riverside Badminton and Tennis Club. Over 60 professional players from across Canada and internationally are competing for a share of the 40-thousand-dollar, U-S, prize pool. Matches today start at 11 a.m. and run through the afternoon as the event is down to the quarter-finals in singles and semi-finals in doubles.

The Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Association holds its 12th event of the 2025 season tonight at Sutherland Automotive Speedway, featuring the King of the Hill Super Trucks event. There’s also racing in the Pro Trucks, Street Stocks and Bandoleros divisions starting at 7 p.m. with gates open to the public at 5 p.m.
