Adam Roberts enters Surrey Sports Hall of Fame

Fifth in a series of 10 profiles of 2026 Surrey Sports Hall of Fame inductees, celebrated as the hall’s inaugural class during a June 2 ceremony at Surrey City Hall.
Adam Roberts, Coach
Sport has always been central to Adam Roberts’ life. As a youth he competed in hockey and baseball before discovering his passion for rugby in Grade 8 at Semiahmoo Secondary under coach Paul Horne.
After graduating, Adam spent a year playing with Cardiff Rugby Club, an experience that elevated his game and deepened his commitment. He returned to attend UBC, where he played for the Bayside Sharks and began coaching. In 2006, he became a teacher at Earl Marriott Secondary, where he has since helped develop young athletes and leaders.
Over two decades, Adam has built Earl Marriott into a consistent provincial contender, winning titles and earning recognition as one of BC’s top rugby programs. He has also coached U18 Provincial and National teams, helping athletes advance to Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team, and worked with university programs including Western Washington and Trinity Western. Throughout, he has emphasized the core rugby values of integrity, humility, service, and sportsmanship.
Adam credits his family’s ongoing support, from his father’s involvement in local sport to the daily encouragement of his wife, Alita. Together they are raising two daughters, Skylar and Gracie. He remains dedicated to growing rugby and giving back to the sport that shaped his life.
