Battle to keep Love Island and Survivor teams apart as secret filming location for both shows is revealed

LOVE Island USA and Survivor may look like completely different reality TV worlds – but behind the scenes, the blockbuster franchises are fighting a carefully orchestrated battle to stay separated while filming in the exact same region of Fiji.

While Peacock’s steamy dating series is packed with bikinis, bombshells and late-night villa drama, CBS’ long-running survival competition is all about brutal challenges, blindsides and social politics.

But The U.S. Sun can reveal the two hit shows quietly operate side-by-side each summer throughout Fiji’s stunning Mamanuca Islands.

Love Island USA’s 8th season is currently filming in Fiji as Survivor just wrapped up Season 51 – though Season 52 production is already underway since the shows film back-to-back seasons each Summer. 

According to production insiders, both series film simultaneously in the tropical island chain, with Love Island USA building its flashy luxury villa setup on Fiji’s main island of Viti Levu – where the eliminated Survivor castaways and crew also stay.

The rest of Survivor shoots on more remote, uninhabited islands scattered throughout the Mamanuca Archipelago.

Despite the close proximity, producers go to extreme lengths to make sure the worlds never collide.

“Each show has completely separate producers, directors and editorial teams,” a source explained.

“But there’s overlap with local crew. Over half of the support staff bounce between both productions during the season.”

That includes local Fijians who help out as camera operators, production assistants, technical workers and construction crews tasked with building elaborate sets and challenge structures.

The insider added that the crossover has become a well-oiled machine after years of both productions calling Fiji home.

The overlap between the two productions goes even deeper off-camera.

The U.S. Sun learned that eliminated Survivor contestants are housed at the exact same resort complex used as a production base for Love Island USA.

The famed “Ponderosa” camp, the name given to the location where voted-out Survivor players decompress after leaving the game, has operated out of Mana Island Resort, the same hotel complex that houses much of the Love Island cast and crew during filming.

Eliminated contestants laying low at Ponderosa is also crucial to the filming process as it prevents leaks of who went home during the game.

Yet despite sharing the same broader compound, insiders insist there is absolutely no cast crossover.

“There’s no partying together, no hanging out and no interactions allowed whatsoever.

“The networks enforce very strict separation rules to protect the integrity and secrecy of both shows,” the insider insisted.

The secrecy measures have become increasingly important as both franchises continue growing into two of reality television’s biggest summer juggernauts and work hard to protect the show’s trade secrets.

Survivor has filmed in Fiji continuously since 2016, beginning with Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X, after previously rotating locations around the globe during earlier seasons.

The island nation quickly became the show’s permanent base thanks to generous production incentives such as tax cuts, reliable weather conditions and easy access to remote beaches capable of handling the series’ massive logistical operation.

Host Jeff Probst has repeatedly praised Fiji over the years, previously calling it “the best” production location Survivor has ever used.

Meanwhile, Love Island USA relocated to Fiji in 2023 for Season 5 after previously filming in Las Vegas, California, and Hawaii during earlier seasons.

The Fiji move expanded the show’s scale, allowing producers to create the sprawling luxury villa aesthetic that’s now associated with the series.

Love Island USA exploded in popularity following its viral Peacock revival, while Survivor remains one of CBS’ longest-running and most successful competition series after more than two decades on air.
