Talk about a terrific flag football season.

White Rock South Surrey Titans’ U10 Lightning went 25-1 throughout the entire season, losing only their first game, and to cap it all off, won provincials in Kamloops over the weekend (June 6-7).

Twenty-three of 26 Vancouver Mainland Football League U10 teams travelled to Kamloops for the BC Spring Flag Football Championships, as well as two teams who came from Kelowna, for a total of 25 squads competing for the provincial title.

Players competed jamboree-style, head coach Ryan Gill said Tuesday (June 9), and the U10 Titans went 4-0 both Saturday and Sunday, competing against football teams from the Lower Mainland as well as the Okanagan in short, fast-paced games.

Gill said the team’s hard work all season paid off, especially in the semi-final against a Coquitlam team, where they had to fight to come from behind in a close game.

“They showed a lot of resiliency … they were able to really come back (from behind), they really did that well,” Gill said, praising his athletes’ full effort.

The Titans won 34-0 against a New Westminster team to win the provincial championship on Sunday (June 7).

“They were ecstatic! There were smiles all around,” Gill said.
