Autodrome Chaudière played host to the NASCAR Canada Series on Sunday after rain washed out the doubleheader event originally scheduled for Saturday in Quebec. The weather washed out practice and qualifying, forcing series officials to set the starting lineup per the rulebook and handing the pole for Race 1 to 2025 series champion Marc-Antoine Camirand.

Race 1 featured an incredible battle for the lead between Camirand and Donald Theetge, who started fourth. Theetge took the lead from Camirand after a restart following a crash involving two cars. Twelve laps later, Camirand rallied back to reclaim the lead and win Race 1.

The lineup for Race 2 was set based on the fastest lap posted in Race 1, giving Camirand and Theetge the front row.

Camirand held the lead until lap 19, when Theetge rallied to take the top spot. The two traded the lead a couple more times until the reigning series champion took the lead once more with 16 laps to go.

Camirand swept the doubleheader, earning his 19th and 20th career NASCAR Canada victories.

The doubleheader sweep is a great start on the road to Camirand’s fourth championship, though he admits that it’s too early to hold the conversation. “Too early to think about the championship but this was a good start to the season for us,” he said.

“We were faster than the first race. When I took the lead, I knew I was tight again, so I tried to go to the second groove and was still fast out there,” said Theetge. “We had a good restart but the 96 was so fast on the bottom and I was so tight, especially the final 25 laps. But you know, we’re proud. This was a good points day race and we were really fast.”
