Sabrina Ionescu will give rookie Sonia Citron half of her three-point contest prize money, praising the 21-year-old for having the courage to step up and compete in the event.
“I think I have a limit on Venmo, so I got to figure out how to exactly do that. I’ve got to pick up the check … maybe just cut it in half,” Ionescu joked, per ESPN’s Kendra Andrews.
Ionescu earned $60,000 for her stellar performance on Friday but won’t keep any of it.
The other half of the prize money will be donated to her foundation, SI20, per ESPN’s Alexa Philippou. The SI20 Foundation aims to give youth from all backgrounds equal access to sports, fostering connections and stronger communities.
Citron, the third overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft and the only rookie to participate in All-Star weekend events, is shooting 36.5 percent from three this season for the Washington Mystics. She scored 19 points in the opening round of the 3-point contest.
Meanwhile, Ionescu claimed her second 3-point contest title after her 2023 record-breaking win, where she scored 37 points and made 25 of 27 shots. This year, she secured victory with 30 points.
