A tornado was reported southwest of St. Pierre Tuesday afternoon as a supercell thunderstorm moves northeast through southeastern Manitoba.

Scott Kehler with Weatherlogics, who is travelling along Highway 59 near St. Pierre, confirmed a tornado sighting.

“We’re watching a supercell thunderstorm which just produced a tornado southwest of St. Pierre,” says Kehler.

According to Kehler, the storm is tracking northeast and was expected to impact areas near Niverville.

He adds that while the worst of the storm is expected to miss Steinbach, the city could still see some impacts.

“Steinbach may get a piece of it as well.”

Residents in communities along the storm path are urged to take precautions as conditions remained dangerous.

“People in the area should take shelter immediately if they are in the path of the storm,” he says.

The storm system is moving through southeastern Manitoba amid ongoing severe weather concerns, with residents encouraged to monitor warnings and weather alerts as conditions change.
