More than 140 golfers hit the links at Quarry Oaks Golf Course on Tuesday for the 28th annual Providence Golf Classic, raising money to support student scholarships and bursaries at Providence University College and Theological Seminary.
Melissa Bechard, a donor engagement advisor at Providence who helped run the event, said the sold-out tournament brought together alumni, business partners, supporters and friends of the institution for a day of golf and fundraising.
“it’s exciting to see we had a sold-out tournament again this year and it’s just exciting so many people are out having fun and for a great cause,” said Bechard.
The tournament featured a Texas Scramble format, with teams of four using the best shot from each stroke.

As of Tuesday afternoon, organizers had secured 24 sponsors and raised more than $46,000 through sponsorships alone. Additional funds were expected from golfer registrations, a silent auction and raffle draw.
Bechard said all proceeds from the event will go directly towards scholarships and bursaries to help make post-secondary education more affordable for students.
“It just feels great to know that we’re making a difference and that we have that community support, that Providence community,” she said.
Among the participants was Grant Dredger, who estimated he has taken part in the tournament four or five times.
“They always do a good job on it but mostly it’s wanting to support Providence. I think it’s a really good organization, good institution, and it deserves support,” he said.
The annual tournament has become a long-standing tradition for Providence, combining fundraising with fellowship and investing in the next generation of students.
