Not only is it budget friendly, but super comforting and fulfilling to eat.

Hidden inside one of many old school Hong Kong bakeries in Chinatown is a secret menu item that’s not only budget friendly, but super comforting and fulfilling to eat.

Sun Fresh Bakery carries bakery items like pineapple buns and steamed barbecue pork buns, and dim sum selections like “siu ma” (pork dumpling) and “ha gao” (steam prawn dumpling).

They also have hearty lunch options like preserved eggs and pork congee, stir fried rice noodles and my favourite: fresh steamed rice noodles.

Rice noodles are a traditional staple in Asian cuisine made from milled rice flour, water and a variety of toppings like green onions, ground pork or tender beef. It comes with sweet soya sauce, and has a delicate, chewy texture.

Best of all, it’s naturally gluten-free and starts at only $5.25 per portion.
