The Calgary Fire Department has lifted a boating advisory for the Bow and Elbow rivers after flow rates decreased and river conditions improved.

The advisory, issued May 29, was lifted effective immediately.
City officials said people heading into Calgary, can resume normal activities on and around Calgary’s rivers, but should continue using caution because visibility remains reduced and the water is still cold.
Runoff season risks remain
The city said Calgary’s rivers are monitored by several departments during the annual runoff season, when melting snow and floating debris can create dangerous conditions.
A Calgary Fire Department boating advisory can be issued when conditions include turbidity, debris and Bow River flow rates exceeding 280 cubic metres per second above the Elbow River confluence.
Officials said conditions can still change without warning, including during sudden thunderstorms that can cause rapid, short-term increases in river flow.
The Airdrie forecast for Wednesday calls for showers with the risk of a thunderstorm, northwest wind gusting up to 60 km/h this afternoon and a high of 12 C.
Showers are expected to end this evening, with a 30 per cent chance of showers overnight and the risk of a thunderstorm early this evening.
Thursday’s forecast calls for increasing cloudiness, a 60 per cent chance of afternoon showers and the risk of a thunderstorm, with a high of 16 C.
Lifejackets still required
Calgary Fire and its Aquatics Rescue Team will continue to monitor and patrol city waterways.
Watercraft users are reminded to wear lifejackets, carry required boating safety equipment and avoid alcohol and other intoxicants on Calgary waterways.
