Guam’s Amnol Sobti and Raphaelli Fraga won their age division and 9th overall at the HYROX Yokohama in Japan in a time of 1:02:11.
Athletes from Guam gyms Unified, Custom Fitness and Steel Athletics participated in the event.
HYROX is the latest fitness craze that consists of running and functional exercises.
Participants run 1 kilometer, then complete a specific functional exercise, repeating this sequence eight times.
The exercise stations include Ski Erg, Sled Push, Sled Pull, Burpee Broad Jump, Rowing, Farmers Carry, Sandbag Lunges, and Wall Balls.
Sobti in a social media post said he can’t wait to bring the first place HYROX flag home to Guam.
“Watching my fellow athletes from Guam dominate out here lit a whole new fire in me. We showed up, we showed heart, and we showed the world what we’re made of…this win isn’t just mine, it’s ours. Unity, discipline & health are everything regardless of where we train,” Sobti said.
HYROX combines both running & functional workout stations, where participants run 1km, followed by 1 functional workout station, repeated eight times.
Each race is hosted indoors in expansive exhibition halls, creating an immersive and electrifying race, where spectators can support from the very beginning to the very end, according to the HYROX website.
The race format remains consistent across the globe, enabling global leaderboards & a cumulative World Championships at the end of each race season.
Accommodating both professional athletes, and everyday fitness enthusiasts looking to take their training to the next level, HYROX is the sport for everybody, HYROX said.
Athletes can compete in four different categories.
“Whether you are looking to take on HYROX by yourself in our Open or Pro category, share the experience with a teammate in the Doubles Categories, or split HYROX four ways in our Team Relay category, we have a race for everyone,” HYROX said.
