A 35-year-old woman is in hospital after she was the subject of a hit-and-run on Thursday morning in downtown Montreal.
She was struck by a vehicle while crossing St-Laurent Boulevard, at the intersection with René-Lévesque W. Boulevard, just before 3 a.m., according to Montreal police. The vehicle was travelling westbound when it turned onto St-Laurent Boulevard.
A spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), Caroline Chèvrefils, says the pedestrian crossed the intersection while facing a red light.
When emergency services arrived at the scene, the woman was found with injuries to her upper body and unconscious, and the driver had already fled. Police are waiting for an update on her health condition.
The eastbound lanes of René-Lévesque W. Boulevard are currently closed between St-Urbain and St-Dominique streets, as police conduct their investigation into the circumstances around the hit-and-run.
St-Laurent Boulevard is closed between René-Lévesque and Viger Avenue.
Chèvrefils says investigators are still working to identify the driver and vehicle involved in the incident. They have met with witnesses and will attempt to review nearby security camera footage.
