Kochi: Actor and comedian Dharmajan Bolgatty has spoken out in strong support of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), citing his own experience as proof of the organisation’s silent but important welfare work.

Speaking after casting his vote in Friday’s crucial AMMA elections, Dharmajan revealed that he requires two tablets daily and the organisation ensures they reach his home without fail.

“No one talks about these things,” he said. “If there’s a mistake, people rush to criticise. But AMMA has built houses, given treatment support, sent medicines… that goes unnoticed… I have to take two tablets daily, and they reach me at home on time thanks to AMMA.”

His comments come amid long-standing criticisms of the association’s transparency and inclusivity. However, Dharmajan believes the organisation remains a positive force when led by the right people.

Shwetha Menon becomes AMMA’s first woman president

Actress Shwetha Menon has officially been elected as the first female president of AMMA, a historic moment in the association’s decades-long history. Dharmajan welcomed the increased participation of women in leadership, saying it marks a healthy shift for the organisation.

While expressing optimism about AMMA’s direction, Dharmajan criticised the creation of new groups and WhatsApp politics, saying such internal divides do more harm than good.

Support for Shwetha Menon amid controversy

Addressing the controversy surrounding Shwetha Menon’s past film roles, Dharmajan defended her, stating that actors work according to the demands of a script and that such criticism is misplaced. He also described her as a talented performer and a good person.
