Two Montreal men have been given four and five-and-a-half-year sentences respectively for their part in the shooting death of a Mississauga man outside an Airbnb in Toronto in 2024.
Ontario Superior Court Justice Jane Kelly sentenced Dan Hakizimana, 22, and Hassan Farhat, 21, in Toronto on Thursday in the death of Issaïh Jünger, 18.
Hakizimana and Farhat pleaded guilty to manslaughter in March.
Before Kelly imposed her sentence, she reviewed the facts of the case. The shooting happened following a dispute over stolen property, court heard.
Jünger was shot twice on a porch on Lansdowne Avenue near Bloor Street W. on Feb. 6, 2024. He was found injured and was rushed to hospital, where he died.
“No sentence that I impose will undo the devastation caused by Mr. Jünger’s death. Further, the sentence I impose cannot and does not reflect the value of Mr. Jünger’s life or the degree of suffering his loss has caused,” Kelly wrote.
“A life lost cannot be measured by the length of a prison term.”
Two weeks before his death, Jünger asked his girlfriend, from Verdun, Que., to steal a diamond pendant, a Rolex watch, a laser sight and a gun from a youth and to give the items to Jünger, according to an agreed statement of facts.
After they broke up, she travelled from Montreal with the youth and three men to retrieve the property.

The five confronted Jünger outside the Airbnb, where he was shot.
Hakizimana and Farhat were in the group who confronted Jünger, but they were not the shooters. The two were aware that one man in the group had a gun, however.
“Firearms are a scourge on our society. They are manufactured for the purpose of killing or seriously injuring people. Being with someone in possession of a firearm was a significant threat to the safety of our community, and particularly Mr. Jünger,” Kelly wrote.
A fourth man who was involved in the shooting remains at large.
