The Oro-Medonte Tennis Club (OMTC), located at Horseshoe Valley Memorial Park, is proud to partner with Horseshoe Heights Public School to introduce students to the sport of tennis through Tennis Canada nationally recognized Rogers First Set program.
This spring, OMTC instructor Maddie has been delivering fun, engaging, and age-appropriate tennis activities that help students develop fundamental movement skills, hand-eye co-ordination, confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity.
As part of this community partnership, OMTC has invested in and donated a complete starter tennis program to the school, including 24 youth tennis racquets, low-compression tennis balls, and three mini tennis nets. This equipment will allow students and teachers to continue enjoying tennis activities throughout the school year while supporting active, healthy lifestyles.
The First Set program is designed to make tennis accessible and enjoyable for all children, regardless of experience level. Using modified equipment and progressive learning techniques, students experience success from their very first lesson while developing valuable athletic, social, and life skills.
OMTC’s commitment extends beyond instruction. The club has also donated hundreds of experienced tennis balls from its programs, giving the school additional equipment for gym classes, physical education activities, classroom projects, floor protection for chairs and desks, and a variety of creative learning opportunities.
“We believe every child should have the opportunity to discover the benefits of sport. Tennis teaches resilience, sportsmanship, confidence, problem solving, and healthy habits that can last a lifetime. By bringing tennis directly into our school, we hope to inspire more young people to stay active and become involved in our local community.”
This initiative reflects OMTC’s ongoing commitment to youth development, community engagement, and growing participation in tennis throughout Oro-Medonte Township.
Families interested in continuing their child’s tennis journey are encouraged to visit OMTC’s website for information on June after-school junior lessons as well as youth summer tennis camps running throughout July and August. These programs provide a fun and supportive environment where young players can continue developing their skills and confidence on the court. Registration details are available at OMTCTennis.com.
OMTC would like to thank Horseshoe Heights Public School, Ontario Tennis Association, Tennis Canada, and instructor Maddie for helping make this program a success.
Together, we are building stronger, healthier, and more active communities — one student, one racquet, and one tennis ball at a time.
