TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – A University of Arizona tennis player has been honored with two major sportsmanship awards while the team itself received recognition for its work helping the community.
Martyna Ostrzygalo received the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award and the ITA Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award for the Southwest Region. Both awards go to student-athletes who show leadership, integrity, sportsmanship and service on their teams, campuses and in their communities.
Ostrzygalo led the Wildcats this season while maintaining professionalism and good sportsmanship, according to Arizona Athletics. Her selection for both awards shows the respect she has gained in collegiate tennis, the university said.
The Arizona women’s tennis program also won the ITA Community Service Award for the Southwest Region. The award goes to programs that make an impact through volunteer work, outreach and service in their local areas.
This marks the second year in a row Arizona has been honored for community engagement, according to the release. The team received the ITA Women’s Tennis Community Service Outreach Award in 2024-25.
The three Southwest Region honors show Arizona’s focus on more than just competition. The awards recognize both student-athlete leadership and the program’s commitment to serving others, officials said.
