Calgary police have provided more details on the deaths of a woman and a child on Wednesday in the northeast community of Temple.
Officers attended a home in the area for a welfare check just after 2 p.m. Upon entering the home, officers found the woman and child deceased.
Autopsies were conducted on Thursday, police said in a news release. The deceased have been identified as a seven-year-old boy and his 42-year-old mother.
The office of the chief medical examiner deemed the boy’s death a homicide, while the mother’s death has been deemed a suicide.
Police believe the mother is responsible for the death of her son and say they are not looking for any other suspects.
“This is a tragic and traumatic event,” Staff Sgt. Mark Rahn said in the release. “We recognize that this affects not only the family of the victims, but members of the wider community as well.”
Police are not releasing the names of the deceased out of respect for the family.
There was no reported history of family violence, according to the release.
