Forget New York. OG Anunoby will never have to buy another meal in Connecticut, most of New Jersey and certain parts of Rhode Island, either.
Anunoby has clearly been the Knicks’ third-best player — and at times its second-best — over the past two seasons. He is the Knicks’ best wing defender and was quite literally the best corner 3-point shooter in the league this past season. He showed that off down the stretch of Game 4 when he hit one of those patented corner 3s over Victor Wembanyana and blocked De’Aaron Fox in the closing seconds to give the Knicks the ball back.
But he’ll forever be remembered for the way crashed the boards off of Jalen Brunson’s miss with 1.2 seconds remaining, extending his arm just high enough to tip the ball into the basket and secure the greatest single-game comeback in NBA Finals history.
Those were the 32nd and 33rd points of Anunoby’s night. That’s a new playoff career high for him — and, needless to say, the new indelible pinnacle of his career.
