Ottawa 67’s grab two local players in OHL draft

The Ottawa 67’s walked away with nine forwards, three defencemen and two goalies from the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection held at Kingston’s Slush Puppie Place over the weekend.

They also added two locally grown products with a late-round picks: Marcus Smolcic, a goalie with the Ottawa Valley Titans; and winger Cameron Sheppard, who’s from Stittsville and starred with the Arnprior Packers Jr. B’s last season.

The following is a breakdown of the 67’s haul from the draft of eligible 15- and 16-year-old players.

Round 1 (18th overall): Andrew Laurin, RW, 6-1, 176 pounds, Belleville, Quinte Red Devils U16 AAA. Last season: 34 GP, 26 G, 25 A, 51 PTS, 44 PM.

Round 2 (26th): Henri Packalen, C, 5-10, 170 pounds, Kingston, Peterborough Petes U16 AAA, Last season: 32 GP, 13 G, 30 A, 43 PTS, 18 PM.

Round 2 (36th): Brayden Jaravata, LD, 5-11, 168 pounds, Vaughan, Hill Academy U16. Last season: 60 GP, 12 G, 26 A, 38 PTS, N/A PM.

Round 3 (55th): Brayden Grima, LW, 5-11, 188 pounds, Toronto, Toronto Jr, Canadiens U16 AAA. Last season: 30 GP, 21 G, 23 A, 44 PTS, 16 PM.

Round 5 (99th): Ben Slavick, LW, 6-2, 186 pounds, Westland, Mich., Detroit Little Caesars 15s. Last season: 21 GP, 13 G, 23 A, 36 PTS, 39 PM.
