Alvin Hines is going to be out of action for quite a while.

Earlier this summer, Hines made his UFC debut, stepping in on short notice to face Jhonata Diniz at UFC 317. Hines ended up losing a decision in a spirited effort, but that spirit may have been enhanced.

On Friday, the UFC announced that Hines accepted a one-year suspension for violation of he UFC Anti-Doping Policy, after testing positive for the anabolic steroid Drostanolone, its metabolite, 3a-Hydroxy-2a-methyl-5a-androstan-17-one and testosterone metabolites, as well as a metabolite of Tamoxifen, 3-Hydroxy-4-methooxytamoxifen, a hormone and metabolic modulator.

Hines’s positive tests stem from out-of-competition tests on June 20, and July 5, as well as an in-competition test on June 28, the day of UFC 317. Per the UFC, the testing suggests that Hines took the substances before signing with the UFC, but failed to disclose their use when he joined the UFC Anti-Doping program. Also per the UFC, Hines fully cooperated with the investigation and the estimated concentrations in his tests “were reflective that they were near the tail end of excretion and supported his explanation of their use prior to being signed to the UFC and entering the UFC registered testing pool.”

As a result, Hines only received a one-year suspension, starting on July 11, meaning “Goozie” will be able to return to action on July 11, 2026.
