After a career spent serving up victories, Marie-Philip Poulin has now served poutine out of the Walter Cup.
The Montreal Victoire captain, joined by her teammate and spouse Laura Stacey, toured the PWHL championship trophy through her hometown of Beauceville on Friday.
Having made a series of inspirational stops around town, she then proceeded to serve poutine from the Walter Cup — something the Victoire helpfully confirmed on Instagram was a first.
Asked to rate the experience of eating poutine out of the Walter Cup, Poulin said “10 our of 10.”
Poulin’s grandmother was also on hand to celebrate and try the Walter Cup poutine. While pleased, she did not appear to provide a numerical rating.
Victory lap
Poulin’s hometown visit was the latest in a long string of events celebrating the Victoire’s PWHL title. The last couple of weeks have included a victory parade in Montreal, signing the Golden Book at Montreal’s city hall, a trip to Parliament Hill to meet Prime Minister Mark Carney and an appearance at Quebec’s National Assembly.
On Thursday, mere hours before Quebec’s legislative session came to an end, MNAs from all parties came together to applaud the Victoire players in attendance — and break into an “olé! olé! olé” chant.
“Just a few years ago, many young girls could hardly dream of a professional hockey career,” said sports minister Kariane Bourassa, “and today they can see Quebecers lift the Walter Cup in front of thousands of fans and understand that the biggest dreams are achievable.”
Now they can also see Quebecers eat poutine out of the Walter Cup.
