Gerard Gallant had plenty of success as a Head Coach in the NHL, but after being fired by the Rangers, he’s hit rock bottom by taking a new role in the KHL.

The New York Rangers may have never won a Stanley Cup under Gerard Gallant, but in two seasons he gave the organization plenty of hope before being fired after a first-round exit at the hands of the New Jersey Devils.

Since 2023, he has had very little opportunity to return to the NHL as a Head Coach despite his success with Columbus, Florida, Vegas and New York, with many wondering when he’ll get his next chance in the NHL.

Now, we know his next role, as the recent rumours about Gallant heading to the KHL have been confirmed, with a report revealing where his next Head Coaching role will take place.

According to reports, Gallant will be the next Head Coach of the Kunlun Red Star, a team in the KHL based in China as he looks to resurrect what was once an incredibly promising Head Coaching career.

In 705 regular season games behind the bench in the NHL, Gallant has a 369-262-70 record, and while he wasn’t able to have much sustained Stanley Cup Playoffs success, he’s certainly a talented coach that can get it done in the regular season.

In China, he’ll look to turn around the struggling Red Star, a team that haven’t had much success since joining the KHL, but with a renowned, respected coach like Gallant at the helm, there’s a good chance they can turn things around as the 61-year old looks to prove he can still be a very effective Head Coach at the highest level.
