Maple Ridge RCMP are investigating what they described as a fatal motor vehicle incident Saturday night at Lougheed Hwy and 287 St.

Staff Sgt. Marcel Pinto said it happened around 8:45 p.m. between 287 St. and Hayward St. in Mission.

Westbound traffic on Lougheed Hwy was closed until 4:35 a.m. Sunday.

“The scene was cleared, there’s no risk to the public [and] everything should be open,” Pinto said.

In the early stages of the investigation, there was “no criminality at this point.”

Posts online by witnesses to the incident said it appeared to involve a motorcycle.

One person said the bike hit a truck in the intersection.

“There was nothing left of the bike,” the message to the RCMP Facebook page said.

“[The rider] either lost his helmet or wasn’t wearing one. The truck tail bed was thrown down the street and all the airbags were deployed. It was a horrible thing to witness.”
