The SIU has begun investigating an incident in which a pedestrian was struck by a car and rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
Toronto police say an officer was struck by a car after investigators discharged their firearms at a vehicle in the city’s east end early Monday morning.
According to police, officers were called to the area of Donlands Avenue and O’Connor Drive at around 1 a.m. for a call involving the theft of a vehicle.
“Officers fired their firearm toward the vehicle,” police said, and “the vehicle struck an officer.”
The driver was located and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
One suspect is outstanding but a description has not been released.
The officer sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
In an email, police confirmed to CP24 that the incident is connected to a shooting near Mortimer and Donlands avenues. One person suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries as a result of that shooting, paramedics told CP24.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the incident.
The SIU is an arms-length agency called in to investigate whenever police are involved in an incident that results in death, serious injury, allegations of sexual assault, and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
