Surrey firefighters battle townhouse fire in South Newton

Surrey Fire Service crews were busy fighting a townhouse fire in Newton Sunday night.
Just before 10 p.m. Sunday (June 14), firefighters responded to a blaze in the 14000-block of 61 Avenue in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood.
Crews arrived to find flames leaping from the top floor and outside balcony of a townhouse unit, a freelance photographer at the scene said.
A second alarm was called, bringing around 25 firefighters to the scene, he noted, adding this was the second townhouse fire in the South Newton neighbourhood in the past two weeks.
It is unclear what the cause was, or if there are any injuries.
