In her second tournament since returning to the tennis court, Serena Williams and her partner, Karolina Muchova, couldn’t take down Erin Routliffe and Giuliana Olmos, who won the match 6-4, 6-4.

Williams was playing with a new partner in the Berlin Open, as Muchova joined her to form a formidable duo. However, they ran into two doubles veterans in Routliffe and Olmos, and that doubles experience played out on the court.

Williams and Muchova were never able to break Routliffe and Olmos, while Routliffe and Olmos broke Williams and Muchova once in each set. That was enough to take the victory, winning both sets by the same score to move onto the Round of 16.

Throughout the match, Williams had some strong moments, but her inexperience playing with Muchova played out at times, resulting in enough mistakes to cost the match. Of the two break points in this match, one came off Williams’ service game, and the other came on Muchova’s.

Now that she is out of the Berlin Open, Williams will turn her attention to Wimbledon, where she will play in the doubles tournament with her sister, Venus. As a doubles team, Serena and Venus have 14 major titles and haven’t lost a single match in the for grand slam tournaments.
