Rory McIlroy’s quest for a second US Open title will start alongside European Ryder Cup colleagues Tommy Fleetwood and Ludvig Aberg, as tee times were announced today.

McIlroy returns to Shinnecock Hills as the two-time defending Masters champion, and enters as one of the tournament favourites, given his recent form.

The European three ball have been given an early-late split across Thursday and Friday teeing off at 12:52pm Irish time on day one (7.52am local), starting on the tenth hole.

They will return to the course at 6.47pm Irish time on Friday evening (1.47pm local).

Shane Lowry, who finished second at the 2016 edition, has been grouped with Chilean Joaquin Niemann and American Alex Smalley on the opposite side of the draw.

Lowry’s three-ball get underway at 6.47pm Irish time on Thursday evening (1.47pm local) from the tenth tee, with an early morning on Friday of 12.52pm Irish time (7.52am local).

Elsewhere, reigning US Senior Open champion Padraig Harrington will tee off alongside amateur Miles Russell and LIV star Cameron Smith, while 2010 US Open winner Graeme McDowell is paired with American duo Patrick Rodgers and Keith Mitchell.

World number one Scottie Scheffler, who can complete the career grand slam with a victory this week, is grouped with amateur Mason Howell and defending champion JJ Spaun.

England’s Justin Rose is alongside Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm in a group of past champions while two-time US Open winner Bryson DeChambeau will play his opening two rounds with Norway’s Viktor Hovland and England’s Matt Fitzpatrick.
