The Surrey Police Board will hire an independent accounting firm to do a financial review of the Surrey Police Service in preparation for the 2027 budget process.
The review is expected to be completed by October.
“Our role is to ensure that we are providing the proper governance and oversight for SPS, and that starts with clear, complete picture of its finances,” said Perm Jawanda, who is poised to be elected chairwoman of the board at its meeting today. “This review will give us the information we need to help build a budget we can stand behind in 2027 and beyond.”
A press release issued June 17 by Jason Kuzminski, executive director of the board, indicates that actual SPS spending in 2024 and 2025 was roughly $65 million below budgeted amounts.
