Hollywood often produces some of the most unexpected connections, and the latest involving Tom Cruise and Keith Urban is particularly surprising.
According to a June 12 report from Heat World, sources claimed that Cruise has reached out to the country musician following Urban’s recent divorce from Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman.
“It’s no secret he’s said some pretty harsh things about Keith over the years, but Tom has softened a lot and now he says he just feels sorry for Keith,” a source told the outlet. “It reminds him so much of what he went through when he and Nicole split all those years ago, he says he feels this sense of duty to help the guy out because he’s the only person in the world who can truly know what he’s going through right now.”
Cruise and Kidman were married from December 1990 until their highly-publicized divorce in 2001. Kidman later married Urban in 2006, and their recent split has attracted similar media attention.
“To hear his side of things, the goal is to give Keith a friendly man-to-man pep talk and tell him to hang in there, whilst suggesting certain tools or coping methods that will alleviate his stress and loneliness right now,” the source continued.
Though Cruise has now extended an olive branch, he hasn’t always been kind toward Urban. In fact, the Top Gun star reportedly once viewed Urban as a “hillbilly crooner who wasn’t good enough for Nicole.” However, the recent scrutiny Urban has faced has apparently prompted Cruise to defend him.
“He’s convinced Keith is being far too dignified and getting crucified because of it,” the insider said. “In Tom’s view, this has become a war of narratives and he says Keith would do well to stand up for himself now before he loses the battle completely.”
Urban has reportedly struggled with the aftermath of his and Kidman’s divorce. In June 2026, insiders told Woman’s Day that Urban’s been feeling “lost” since the breakup.
He made his first post-divorce public appearance at the 61st Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 17, and a separate source claimed he “didn’t look comfortable at all.”
“His smile didn’t meet his eyes this time – it’s clear he was a little lost without his former ‘other half,’” they added.
Urban is also likely having a hard time being apart from his daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, who spend most of their time with Kidman under their custody agreement. But per a June 2 report from Woman’s Day, there seems to be tension between the girls amid the divorce.
As it turns out, Faith was allegedly “furious” with Sunday for unfollowing (and later refollowing) Urban on Instagram. “Faith was always a bit of a daddy’s girl and she’s missing him being in her world 24/7,” the source explained. “She doesn’t like all this conflict and feeling like she has to take sides. She was furious that Sunday would take such a public step.”
The source further noted that Urban and Kidman’s divorce has left Faith shattered and feeling caught in the middle. “Poor Faith is confused by how two people can go from being loving and supportive for years to where things are now,” they said. “She knows her mum needs her right now, but she’s also worried about her dad, who doesn’t have the same support network around him Nicole does.”
