Heading into the 2026 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs can say that their offensive line is intact, tight end is set with Travis Kelce returning, and running back could see a huge upgrade with Kenneth Walker coming in as their big-money signing. Wide receiver, in theory, should be a solid yet somewhat uninspiring group.
Rashee Rice is coming off of knee surgery and still can’t seem to stay out of trouble completely. Xavier Worthy has shown flashes of brilliance, but his chemistry with Patrick Mahomes leaves a lot to be desired. Second-year player Jalen Royals is an unknown at this point in time, and Tyquan Thornton is more of a role player. It seems like the wide receiver corps is missing an elite option.

With that in mind, the NFL.com staff went through the options and chose five players they would like to see make a comeback and join a current NFL squad. Brooke Cersosimo, stunningly, chose 49-year-old Randy Moss for the Chiefs. In a recent appearance on Kelce’s podcast, Moss had said he believes he could still play football given the modern NFL’s rules changes.
He’s already come out of retirement once, albeit 14 years ago. But the 49-year-old Hall of Fame receiver, now cancer-free, said it himself during a March appearance on the “New Heights” podcast: “I really believe the way they changed the rules of the game that I could really still go out there and give a team close to double-digit touchdowns.” OK, Randy! No need to tell me twice. I’d also guess there isn’t a team on Earth that would walk away from 10 scores, and as much as I’d like to see The Freak play opposite Justin Jefferson in Minnesota, Patrick Mahomes desperately needs some help in Kansas City. Just picture Moss mossing defenders in the end zone to help elevate the Chiefs’ once-dominant passing attack. Plus, anyone tied to Mahomes has a legitimate chance at a ring — the only thing missing from Moss’ résumé.
That would be truly shocking. But it’s a nice exercise to imagine what a combination between Mahomes and Moss in his prime would have been like. We’ve already seen what Moss and an elite quarterback like Tom Brady could do: Nearly 1,500 yards and 23 touchdowns. Mahomes would regain his MVP form if he had a wide receiver of Moss’ caliber.
