Clanging cowbells and cheering filled the streets outside the TREK bike shop in Victoria Tuesday night, as the End2End relay team of cyclists embarked on the 48-hour relay ride to raise funds for kids with cancer on Vancouver Island.
The team of relay riders will pedal 1,000 kilometres non-stop from Victoria to Port Hardy and back in support of the Island Kids Cancer Association (IKCA) is a small, frontline charity that works directly with Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands families impacted by childhood cancer.
Among the cyclists are CHEK’s Upside Guys, Ed Bain and Jeff King and they’ll be rolling into Port Hardy on Wednesday with the rest of the team to visit the community.
At 8:46 a.m. Wednesday, Sophia Pugh and Kevin Nunn had just passed Sayward junction.
If you’re in Port Hardy on Wednesday between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., you’re invited to meet the team at PHSS for some BBQ smash burgers and jumbo hot dogs by donation, provided by Oceanside Cantina. CHEK News will also be live on location at this time.
Other End2endcancer riders include Saskia Bjornson, Ryan Clarke, Morgan Harker, Jen Millar, Kevin Nunn, Sara Park and Sophia Pugh.

End2End’s first event took place last year and was started by Andy Dunstan, part-time TREK employee and a former police officer. TREK owner Bill Fry heard what Dunstan wanted to do and jumped in to help as a sponsor and a rider. In their first year of running the event, End2End raised over $100,000 to support local Island kids with cancer.
