Mike Breen’s “Bang!” is one of the most iconic phrases in sports, and he almost gave fans a triple “Bang!” call during the NBA Finals.
The ESPN commentator revealed that he would’ve given a triple “bang” had Jalen Brunson hit a go-ahead three-pointer at the end of Game 4 against the San Antonio Spurs.
He said he couldn’t use it on OG Anunoby’s game-winning tip-in.
“Yes,” Breen told Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina when asked if he would’ve used a triple bang. “… I can’t do a triple ‘BANG!’ on a tip in. I just couldn’t do it. So, I did a triple, ‘It’s good! It’s good! It’s good!'”
Breen preserves his famous call for the most iconic moments, and seldom does he give more than one “bang.” There are a few instances in which he has used multiple, like Stephen Curry’s game-winning shot against the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2016.
NBA fans may have missed out on a triple “bang” from Breen in Game 4, but Anunoby’s tip-in is still one of the most memorable shots in recent history.
