VIDEO: Moose on the loose in Thessalon was ‘looking for a way out of town’

A witness saw the moose run behind Kosmos restaurant, through the back alley across a residential yard, and swim across the river to Water Street

Videos posted on social media yesterday showed a moose running around Thessalon.

SooToday caught up with two people who shared those videos.

Allie Simons was shocked to see the moose running around town.

It “was in the middle of Huron Street West and ran behind Kosmos restaurant, through the back alley across a residential yard, and swam across the river to Water Street,” Simons said.

John Degen filmed the moose after it emerged from the river. He thinks it was a young cow moose.

“She swam across the Thessalon River, looking for a way out of town, and popped up on the riverbank right in front of me and my little dog,” he said.

“We backed away to give her space and an escape route, but she gave me time to capture a bit of video.”

Degen’s dog, Birdy, can be heard barking at the moose at the end of the video.
