If you’d like to donate to the effort to install a series of sculptures in Sudbury honouring the life of the renowned conservationist Jane Goodall, you can now do so through the Sudbury Arts Council, thanks to a partnership with the organization.
Donors will receive a charitable donation receipt through the arts council.
A press release said the Sudbury Arts Council’s board of directors were keen to get involved in the Jane Goodall Reasons for Hope Project when it learned Lively sculpture Tyler Fauvelle was commissioned to create the series of installations.
Goodall visited the city on at least five occasions and spoke about Sudbury’s regreening success to audiences around the world.
The IMAX documentary “Jane Goodall – Reasons for Hope” was co-produced by Science North and Sudbury’s regreening and ecological restoration story is featured.
After her passing, a group of citizens, led by John Gunn and Ursula Sauve, decided to honour Goodall and her work by commissioning four sculptures.
The fourth and most dramatic installation, a life-sized sculpture of Goodall, will stand on the shore of Lake Ramsey on the boardwalk adjacent to Science North.
The organizers are seeking donations for this sculpture and Sudbury Arts Council is accepting donations on behalf of the organizing committee.
“Tyler Fauvelle has created monuments celebrating Canadian Armed Forces personal, miners, historical figures and Indigenous heroes for many communities,” said arts council vice-president Judi Straughan, in the press release.
“But until now, Sudbury has had few examples of his work. The best known is the life-sized bronze commemorating Stompin’ Tom Connors at Sudbury Arena. We were drawn to the project because it is beautiful public art created by Tyler and celebrates our city’s regreening miracle.”
