Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka might consider a return to the PGA Tour if they don’t receive substantial offers to remain with LIV Golf.
LIV Golf, established in 2022, managed to attract some of the sport’s biggest stars like Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Koepka, all signing deals worth more than $100 million. However, these contracts are reportedly nearing their end.
While DeChambeau is likely to get another hefty offer as he’s one of the faces of LIV Golf, Koepka and Johnson may not be so lucky. The pair has been struggling with their form in recent years, and Golfweek reports that the same lucrative offers won’t be on the table this time around.
LIV Golf executives have told their players that the huge signing fees that attracted many of the league’s big names won’t be available during new contract negotiations. This could test the loyalty of Johnson and Koepka.
Johnson has had a successful run at LIV Golf, winning the Team Championship with the 4Aces and the Individual title in the league’s inaugural season. But his form has dipped recently, particularly in major tournaments.
In 2025, the two-time major champion didn’t make the cut at the Masters, the PGA Championship, and the U.S. Open, and ended up tied for 23rd place at The Open Championship last month. His contract with LIV Golf is set to expire at the end of the 2025 season.
Koepka is also approaching the conclusion of his LIV Golf contract, and his next move remains uncertain. The American’s ambiguous future has sparked widespread speculation after questions emerged regarding his commitment to the Saudi-funded tour.
Despite becoming the inaugural LIV Golf competitor to secure a major championship when he captured the 2023 PGA Championship, Koepka is allegedly considering a PGA Tour comeback to reclaim his peak performance. Similar to Johnson, the two-time major winner failed to make the cut at three of the four majors, only advancing past Friday at the U.S. Open.
Earlier this year, former Masters winner Fred Couples revealed that Koepka was eager to rejoin the PGA Tour. Couples told KJR 93.3 FM: “I talked to Brooks Koepka all the time.
“I love Brooks Koepka, and I’m not going to say anything extra except I talked to him all the time. He wants to come back [to the PGA Tour]. I will say that I believe he really wants to come back and play the Tour.”
When these remarks were presented to Koepka in March, the Smash GC captain declined to clarify his future intentions. He said, “Everybody seems to have their own opinion, and no one asks me. Like I’ve said before, I’m not in those rooms. I’ve got a contract obligation out here to fulfill, and then we’ll see what happens.”
Koepka and Johnson are set to tee off at the LIV Golf Indianapolis, scheduled for Aug. 15-17 at Chatham Hills.
