Royal Ascot has begun, and Queen Camilla has used the occasion to remind us of one of the easiest and most reliable makeup tricks in the book. It’s a simple technique that not only creates an instantly polished look, but experts also say is flattering at any age.

The Queen, 78, was seen at the races yesterday looking elegant as ever in a pale blue ensemble. Naturally, here on the GH beauty desk, we couldn’t resist zooming in for a closer look at her makeup.

Camilla opted for a sweep of her signature lip colour, a complexion-brightening pink. What really caught our attention, however, was how she cleverly matched her blush to the shade. Swept across her cheeks was a coordinating pink hue, creating a beautiful tonal finish. It’s a basic trick, but one beauty experts swear by.

‘Matching blush and lipstick is one of the simplest yet most effective beauty techniques,’ says Stila’s lead UK artist, Sascha Jackson. She explains, ‘It’s brilliant because it creates colour harmony and balance across the face.’

‘Queen Camilla’s Ascot look is a perfect example of how coordinated colour can elevate an entire look,’ she says. ‘The subtle repetition of colour helps create a cohesive look, which is why it remains such a timeless beauty rule.’

While Camilla opted for her signature pink, it’s a trick that can be adapted to your own favourite shades, whether you lean towards peachy hues or rich berry tones. ‘A monochromatic look, where the blush and lipstick sit within the same colour family, is always universally flattering,’ says Sascha.

Not only will it simplify your routine, but Sascha says it’s particularly flattering on mature skin, too. ‘When you coordinate tones that mimic a natural flush, the complexion will appear fresher, healthier and more youthful.’

And if Queen Camilla’s look is anything to go by, we’d say her glowing complexion is proof of that.
