Orbea’s Wild eMTB was quite well received when it launched. It’s also the bike that Martin Maes famously rode as a downhill test mule, sans motor, quite fast at a few World Cups. Now, the Basque brand is making it a little more, well, wild. The new Wild LT still follows the lead of its Rallon line of DH and enduro (and eMTB) bikes. Now it’s smarter, has more travel and is powered by the Avinox M2S motor. The latter comes with a special “RS” tune just for Orbea that, in a bold move, limits the system’s marquee power.
Orbea Wild LT, with impressively slim lines for a full-power eMTB
Lightweight, full performance: Wild goes big
The Wild was already pretty gravity focused. The new Wild LT takes that further. It comes stock with 170mm rear travel and, through the MyOrbea configuration program (which is still, somehow, free – though certain parts changes cost more. Or less), the option of a 170mm or 180mm fork. There’s also the ability to run a 2o0mm dual crown fork if you want to escalate your e-ride beyond just wild.
Despite that, and despite a full-power Avinox drive unit, the Wild LT can be built up surprisingly light. As low as 21kg for a complete build. All that weight sits quite low, like with the Rallon, from a low shock placement, pivot, top tube and, of course, the motor and battery system. The goal is to get the weight as low as possible for a low center of gravity, better traction and better feel when the trail is no longer straight in front of you.
Orbea offers carbon fibre and polished aluminum frames, which is great to see. There’s the option for 29″ or MX wheels, via a dedicated upper link. That is now a one-piece carbon fibre link, saving a couple hundred grams. There’s also a flip chip for high/low geo settings as well as an angle adjust headset. Orbea ditches the headset routed cables for the Wild LT, too, in a very welcome move.
Finally, there is clearance for a 200mm dropper on all sizes, or a 240mm dropper on L and XL frames.
RS Tune and System: Not just an Avinox.
RS tuned actually means quite a change. Orbea asked for much quicker power delivery, kept the full 130 Nm torque spec (150Nm in Boost mode) but limited the power to 750 W. Orbea claims this combo of quick power but limited maximum power helps significantly improve range with the Avinox system, while still getting you to the top very fast and thriving on technical climbs.
“The RS tune makes the motor significantly more sensitive to pedal force and rotation, meaning support arrives instantly when it is needed most. This faster reactivity provides the precise control necessary for hill starts and pedal ratcheting on steep, technical climbs. ”
That helps squeeze more ride time out of the 800Wh battery. Orbea also offers the option of a 600Wh battery, if you’re looking to minimize weight.
RS System goes further, making this integration smart. The RS HMI controller not only changes power levels, it also operates the smart wireless dropper post, the Fox Neo system on models with that shock, and can operate lights, via the Avinox USB-C port. All these parts are also powered by the Avinox battery system, so you only need one cable to charge every part of your Wild LT.
