Ottawa firefighters said they extinguished three notable fires late Wednesday and early Thursday, making it their second busy night in a row.
The first was an electric scooter that caught fire in a garage on Valencia Street in Barrhaven around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Crews were able to remove the scooter from the garage and extinguish it before the flames spread, Ottawa Fire Services said on social media.
The next was around 12:15 a.m. Thursday toward the south end of Meadowbrook Road near Cyrville Road, it said.
That fire was in the second floor bedroom of a townhome and the only person inside was awoken by a smoke detector, according to firefighters.
The resident suffered serious burns, paramedics said. They will be unable to return to the home, though the flames were contained to the bedroom, firefighters said.
The third fire was just before 4 a.m. Thursday in an apartment above a pizza restaurant at Merivale Road and Kirkwood Avenue.
All residents got out safely and the fire was under control in about half an hour, firefighters said.
The night before, three other blazes resulted in two pets being found dead in a downtown highrise fire and two people being hospitalized after a townhome fire east of the core.
According to their annual report for 2025, Ottawa firefighters put out 1,521 fires, or about 4.2 per day.
