The City of Gatineau is asking about 45,000 residents in the Gatineau sector to boil their water for one minute before consuming it.
In a news release issued Friday night, the city said it is issuing the advisory after a water main break on rue Saint-Louis.
The city said it is also possible for residents to observe a drop in pressure or a yellowish discoloration of their water.
Once the boil water advisory is lifted, the city said residents will be required to open all cold-water taps and let the water run for a minute.
Rue Saint-Louis is closed between Boulevard de la Cité and Boulevard Maloney West for repairs, the city said. A detour is also in place via Boulevard de la Cité and Boulevard Maloney.
