UBC Okanagan men’s golf team wins national title

The UBCO men’s golf team is the best university team in Canada.
The UBCO Heat dominated the field of play at the 2026 Canadian University/College Championship at Golf La Tempete in Lévis, Quebec.
Rookie Oakley Mayner led UBCO to victory, shooting 19 under par across three rounds of golf. He finished 10 shots ahead of the Montreal Carabins, who finished the tournament in second place.
”It’s hard to put into words what this means to our team,” said Heat head coach Clay Stothers following the victory. I’m just so happy for the boys, and I’m grateful for them believing in this program when we have come from nowhere.”
Mayner is from Kelowna and had an outstanding week for the Heat.
The golfer opened with a four-under par 68 on Tuesday, followed by a five-under par 67 in round two on Wednesday.
UBCO says Mayner capped his week with a one-over par 73 in round three to finish at eight-under par and win the individual silver medal while also claiming All-Canadian honours.
”Oakley was amazing all week. He went bogey-free over the first two rounds and just couldn’t miss. It was fun to witness, and he has an extremely bright future in this sport,” said Stothers.
Second-year Heat golfer Ryan Vest, from Vernon, finished three under par in his first Canadian University/College Championship with UBCO.
The Heat’s national win has earned the team an exemption into the 2026 Canadian Collegiate Invitationals. The men’s tournament will take place Sept. 12-15 at Öviinbyrd in MacTier, Ontario.
