Why are all the baseball teams wearing blue ribbons on their jerseys today?

Because it’s Father’s Day, of course!

In the world of Major League Baseball, this means we get baby blue ribbons on the uniforms of Major League Baseball players, coaches, managers, and umpires for all games played on Sunday, June 21st.

Beyond the ribbons, on-field personnel can add blue socks from Stance and blue wristbands from Franklin Sports, while players are free to swing blue, cause-inspired bats from Marucci, Victus, and other approved suppliers. Commemorative base jewels and lineup cards carrying the Father’s Day prostate cancer awareness logo round out the day at each ballpark.

It all ties back to the cause. The league’s Father’s Day program supports the Prostate Cancer Foundation, with this year’s effort again powered by the Home Run Challenge, meaning every home run hit through the month of June, right up to today, generates proceeds for the foundation.

What still isn’t happening this year are the special blue caps. After being introduced in 2016, this is now three seasons in which there are no special caps for Father’s Day – the 2020 pandemic-shortened year (which didn’t start until July), and now both the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

FATHER’S DAY CAPS THROUGH THE YEARS

Below is a quick trip back through time at the various Father’s Day caps and jersey designs that we’ve seen on the field since the program was first introduced in 2016. Note that there was no Father’s Day cap during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, nor in 2025 or 2026. Father’s Day-themed jerseys were worn along with the caps in 2016 and 2017.
