About 4,500 Montreal-area addresses were still without power by 11 a.m. Sunday, down considerably from the 20,000 homes affected by Hydro-Québec outages Saturday as a result of severe weather.

Thunderstorms and rainfall of between 100 and 150 mm across the city meant that service was interrupted by the utility in a number of municipalities, including Pierrefonds and Dollard-des-Ormeaux.

Hydro-Québec said in statement on Sunday that “depending on the area, service was interrupted as a preventive measure to ensure public safety.”
It said restoration is underway and “will proceed gradually, as conditions allow crews to operate safely.”
