City of Edmonton, St Albert, Leduc and surrounding communities urged to reduce all non-essential water use

Edmonton, St Albert, Leduc, Parkland County and Beaumont are urging its residents to reduce all non-essential water use.

Heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours has pushed the City’s wastewater system to capacity, with localized flooding and backups being reported. Residents are asked to cut back on water use right away to help ease pressure on the system. If pressures continue, backups will continue throughout other parts of the city.

With the rainfall warning over parts of Edmonton and the surrounding area, EPCOR says it received more than 700 calls for concerns of pooling and flooding.

EPCOR says the stormwater system is under pressure and Edmontonians are asked to reduce their water consumption as more rain is on the way Monday.

These are some of the things people can do to help:

Hold off on laundry and dishwashing;

Take short showers and limit baths;

Avoid flushing toilets;

Don’t run the water while brushing your teeth or shaving;

Eliminate any other non-essential water use.
