A gas leak and a house fire kept Winnipeg firefighters busy Sunday, prompting evacuations and an emergency response at two separate locations.
In the first call, fire crews responded to a blaze in a single-family bungalow in the 100 block of Adsum Drive.
Smoke reported at Adsum Drive home
Smoke was coming from the home when crews arrived. They entered the home and fought the fire from inside, bringing it under control about 20 minutes later.
The occupants of the home escaped safely before crews arrived. One person was assessed at the scene but did not require transport to hospital.
A cat was found in the home and rescued by firefighters.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Later in the day, around 8:10 p.m., crews were dispatched to the 400 block of Langside Street for reports of a natural gas smell at a vacant home.
Firefighters detected elevated gas levels inside the residence, prompting the evacuation of several nearby homes as a precaution. The surrounding area was also closed to traffic.
Manitoba Hydro crews responded to the scene and repaired the leak.
Once gas levels returned to safe levels, residents were allowed to return, and the road was reopened.
No injuries were reported.
