Peel Regional Police say that a 24-year-old Brampton man has been arrested after allegedly firing a handgun at a Peel Regional Police officer during a foot chase in Mississauga on Sunday.
The incident occurred on June 21 when members of the Strategic and Tactical Enforcement Policing (STEP) team observed a man wearing a mask around his chin fleeing a nearby establishment and jumping multiple fences. Police say the suspect fled when approached and allegedly fired multiple shots toward an officer during the pursuit. No officers were struck.
The suspect was taken into custody and treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries before being released into police custody. Two officers suffered minor injuries.
Isaiah Bachoo of Brampton has been charged with discharging a firearm with intent and possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm. Police say he was under multiple court-ordered firearm prohibitions at the time of his arrest due to previous firearm-related convictions.
The investigation remains ongoing.
