Another golf major has come and gone, and although it wasn’t a total wash, it wasn’t a great week for me. After Thursday, things looked really good with several ponies in the race, Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick, Patrick Reid, and the eventual winner, Wyndham Clark, were all looking good to cash top-five finishes, but at the end of it all, only Clark came through. I look forward to the British Open.
On the CFL, things have been good. It’s almost money in the bank betting the overs in all games. The Riders’ game against Calgary obviously helps going into overtime, but the offences are putting up points.
A number of you have texted in about CFL bets going into the weekend, and it’s intriguing. This week, a couple of you took Tommy Stevens for an anytime touchdown, and I had to jump on that train, and of course, it cashed. One member of the Yact Club, the name I have given to my text group of degens, took KSB for three touchdowns as a long shot that almost hit. I’m gonna keep watching the forecast and looking at that over/under as we head into each weekend.
At the World Cup, I had a lot of fun on Saturday at a local establishment, taking Germany as the winner midway through the game, even though they were down 1-0. The gentleman beside me was talking about how many goals are scored late in soccer matches, so I thought it sounded like a good play to bet on Germany over the Ivory Coast. Around a quarter (23% to 29%) of all FIFA World Cup goals are scored in the final 15 minutes of regulation time. Historically, the period from the 81st minute to the final whistle is consistently the highest-scoring phase of any World Cup match. I’m gonna keep watching and keep soccer as an option for some fun on days when there isn’t much going on.
