The new chief of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service has been named.
Ryan Sneath will step into the role on July 6, the city said in a news release on Tuesday.
He has been the fire-paramedic service’s deputy chief of paramedic operations and training since 2021.
Sneath also previously served as the service’s assistant chief of paramedic operations, during which he led daily emergency medical service operations, the release said.
He brings steady leadership, proven experience and a strong understanding of the service, Mayor Scott Gillingham said in the release.
Sneath is replacing Christian Schmidt. The city announced in April that he would retire in early July.
Schmidt has worked for the city for over three decades and has led the city’s emergency response department since August 2021.
