A man was briefly detained by police for trespassing at the Surrey Pride Festival on June 20 after returning with a protest sign following an earlier confrontation.
According to a report by Guardteck Security, provided to the Now-Leader, at around 2:37 p.m., a man was seen having a confrontation with another individual in front of one of the vendors’ tents, and security was notified.
Security monitored the situation until the man left a short time later.
Several hours later, at 5:21 p.m., the man returned to the area, but this time with “protest signage.” He was asked to leave the festival, which was mainly on Central City mall property, and “refused to comply,” the report read.
Police were called to the scene, and he was briefly detained for trespassing and “was given voluntary transport to another location” by police.
Photos posted to Facebook show the man in handcuffs getting in the back of the police cruiser, but Surrey Police media relations officer Sgt. Ali Gailus said the man had not been arrested.
