Man, 22, charged after loaded handguns found during Surrey traffic stop

A 22-year-old man has been charged in connection with an investigation by the BC extortion task force
On August 10, 2025, Metro Vancouver Transit Police (MVTP) pulled over a vehicle in Surrey and discovered two loaded handguns inside.
Police shared the information and intelligence with other police in the region.
“As the investigation progressed and through the formalization of the BC Provincial Extortion Task Force in September 2025, it was determined the Task Force would assume conduct of this investigation due to a possible nexus to extortion-related activities,” noted a BC RCMP news release Wednesday.
On June 17, 2026, the BC Prosecution Service approved two counts of occupying a vehicle with a firearm present contrary to section 94(1) of the Criminal Code against Daljot Rehal.
The 22-year-old was located and arrested in Abbotsford on Tuesday (June 23). He remains in custody until his next court appearance.
