Young wolves spotted near Vancouver Island golf course spark warning

The B.C. Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) has issued a warning after wolves were spotted in Colwood late last week.
The provincial body said it received a report on June 22 that two juvenile wolves were in the Olympian Way area, near the Olympic View Golf Club.
The animals were spotted two days earlier, on June 20.
“People are encouraged to take precautions in case of wolf encounters, such as ensuring pets are leashed and being aware of surroundings,” the BCCOS said in a statement to the Goldstream News Gazette.
“Never approach wolves and give them space if seen.”
Though no aggressive or conflict behaviour was noted, the BCCOS placed signage in the area for public awareness.
Conservation officers will continue to monitor wolf activity in the area and respond as necessary to ensure public safety.
While wolves are generally not a threat to humans, all aggressive wolf behaviour should be reported to the BCCOS at 1-877-952-7277.
